Posted on September 6th, 2009 by by Bob Sanders

When you look at the contour of how motorcycle helmets are made, you just know theyre designed for speed. You can practically feel the rush and excitement of riding a motorbike. It all comes with the aerodynamic shell design, and the graphics are all part of the package.

Of course the newest helmets are trendy in style and the variety of models seem endless but the truth is that most possess the same basic safety trends. For helmets to be able to protect against high forces and absorb impact energy they are created with state-of-the-art fiberglass. For even better serve as protection helmets are wind-tested and aero-tuned in order to get safety approved.

The current helmets are divided into two main groups, you have the full-faced helmets which give the most protection to your head and your face and then you have the safety helmets which only cover the head and fact partially. Both work to fight against outside forces that could get in your way of the drive such as noise, dirt, bugs, and wind.

But one thing they don’t interfere with is your view. The helmets are equipped with wide visors to improve both your frontal vision and your peripheral so you can keep an eye on all parts of the road.

Many motorcycle helmets today have additional helpful features. One being vents in the areas of the forehead and chin rests for ventilation and air flow. Some also have breath deflectors to keep your face from getting fogged up; and many more are UV protected to fight against harmful rays from the sun and it’s heat.

More vital than the comfort benefits are the features to keep your helmet strapped on to your head to protect you in the sudden situation of high impact falls or crashes which would otherwise lead to head and/or neck injuries.

When choosing among the newest trends and styles in motorcycle helmets, safety always comes before economy. You cant go for an inexpensive helmet which isnt DOT certified over a more expensive one which is DOT certified. Consider a more expensive but certified helmet a long term investment in your life for your many years of happy motoring ahead.

Today’s helmets bring together the elements of style and comfort. They are able to keep the safety while keeping a sleek and modern design. You’re going to get the best safety options available, with the best features in a motorcycle helmet and still have the bonuses of comfort and proper fit.

Consult site’s fitting charts to allow you to find the helmet that is just right for your head. And once that’s known it won’t be hard for you to find the style and design that matches your riding style to match your bike or your bike wear.

The Deal With Custom Motorcycle Number Plates

Posted on July 12th, 2009 by by Ric Norton

Fitting a custom rear motorcycle number plate to your pride and joy is a popular way to add a little individuality to your two wheeled vehicle for a small amount of cash.

Regardless of whether you are trying to create a one of a kind bike for road use or you want to build a show winner, you’ll find that a cool number plate enhances the finished look of your bike.

For those of us in the UK it never used to be too hard to find a garage willing to make up some lovely customised plates for a small fee but changes in the law mean that it is no longer quite as simple.

Unfortunately things have changed with the law recently and its no longer as simple. If you search online you can still find companies who will sell you a kit to make your own plates but you can find one who will sell you the finished product.

The reason its now so much more difficult to find someone who will do the dirty work for you in regards to number plate manufacturer is that it is now illegal to supply number plates which have the potential to be used on the public highway that don’t meet the specifications set out by the DVLA.

UK companies selling plates for road use need to meet the standards or they face the possibility of being prosecuted. These legal plates are obviously nice and easy to read by the police and other road users so its not hard to understand why we are required to follow these rules.

If you still want to get a custom plate but don’t fancy making it yourself at home then you need to find a plate maker who doesn’t mind taking the risks with the law, if you’re lucky you’ll have some biker friends who can point you in the right direction. Just remember that if you get caught with your dodgy plates you could face a slap on the wrist if you are lucky or a fine and penalty points if you are not.
